MGM Casino stresses diversity in hiring

Terry Lanni, chairman and chief executive of MGM Mirage, spoke with the Free Press following the opening of a staffing center late last month in Detroit, where the casino is interviewing candidates for 1,000 new jobs.

The MGM Grand Detroit Casino LLC, a unit of MGM Mirage, is to open later this year. With a budget of $765 million, it is the largest construction project under way in Michigan.

MGM Grand's temporary facility has been the most lucrative of Detroit's three casinos since they opened in the summer of 1999.

In March, MGM Grand's revenue was up 14.24% from a year earlier, outperforming MotorCity Casino, which was up 4.78% from last year and Greektown, which was up 3.76%.
